Congratulations to Our 2003 Amoroso Baking Company Scholars!

It is with the utmost pleasure that we announce our 2003 Amoroso's Baking Company Scholars. Please give a round of applause to Jessica and Nhung Nguyen, Charles Michael Bemak, Jr., Jo Jo D'Occhio, and Megan Berry. Jessica and Nhung are the daughters of Dien Nguyen (Packer); Charles is the son of Charles Bemak (Systems Analyst); Jo Jo calls Joe D'Occhio (Driver) "dad;" and Megan is the daughter of Betsy Berry (Accounts Payable).

These outstanding students are on the fast track to success, and their scholarships, which are funded by the Amoroso family, will help them on their journey. Elementary and high school students will receive $500 tuition scholarships. College students are awarded $1,500.

Jessica Nguyen will begin her freshman year at Cardinal Dougherty High School, where she'll join big sister Nhung, who is entering her senior year. These girls have big plans. Jessica is interested in science, and hopes one day to become a doctor. Nhung, who says she's interested in "everything," hopes to study math at Drexel or Westchester University after high school.

Charles Michael Bemak, Jr. enters fourth grade at St. Martin of Tours in September. He's a two-time spelling bee champ, finishing first out of 200 students in both the 2nd and 3rd grade. His proud dad describes him as "a big time Eagles fan," who "predicts a Super Bowl win this year."

(We'll hold you to that prediction, Charles.)

Megan Berry is heading to Albright College in the fall as a freshman majoring in Business (and playing softball, her favorite sport). "She worked very, very hard, and it shows," says her mom proudly. We're not the only ones who know a winner when we see one - Megan also received a Dean's Scholarship, Lion's Club Scholarship, and the Delaware County Tavern Association Scholarship. Way to go, Megan!

Jo Jo D'Occhio is bound for his freshman year at University of Delaware. According to his dad, the kid's a whiz at math and science, and it certainly shows. Jo Jo was among the few incoming freshmen accepted directly into the university's challenging Engineering program. Most of the incoming freshmen have to work toward it throughout their first year, but not this one. Good job, Jo Jo!

As in previous years, an independent panel of evaluators graciously donated their time and energy to reviewing each application packet. And, as always, they report that it was difficult to select just five scholars from a pool of outstanding candidates. It's never too early to plan ahead, so starting thinking now about next year's scholarships.

If you are full-time employee for three years or more, your child is eligible for tuition scholarship consideration if he or she will be attending a private or parochial grammar school, high school, a two- or four-year college or university, or an accredited trade school. Don't forget that previous scholars are encouraged to reapply. We hope that all that are eligible will apply next year, and will announce details in the spring.

Like you, we believe that these tuition scholarships can help your children achieve their dreams. We couldn't be prouder of the 2003 Amoroso's Baking Company Scholars. Please join us in wishing them all the best.
