Effects of 9/11 Include Heightened Security
September 11 changed many things, including the efforts we take to protect ourselves, our loved ones, our products, and our property from the all-too-real threat of additional terror attacks.
Here at Amoroso's, Todd Beringer and Dan McGlynn literally keep a lid on contamination or other possible tampering with additional caps and locks on equipment and storage facilities, such as our flour system. "It's too bad that we have to think this way, but operating at the safest possible level is the only way to go," Dan notes of the extended security precautions now in place.
These include modifications to the physical approach to the plant and offices. Customers, vendors and other visitors to Amoroso's will soon have to identify themselves prior to gaining permission to pass through the newly installed security doors providing access to the facility. Another safety change is company associates will soon have to use electronic passes to enter the bakery.
Drivers have felt the effects of the terror attacks as well. Just ask Joe Heim (Route 44). "I've gotten used to leaving earlier on my route to allow time for the checks and security procedures now in place at some of my stops," he says.
These include spending 30 minutes undergoing two separate checks at the airport. "It's a hassle, but there's no way around it, and it's the only way to operate after 9/11," he says philosophically.
These days, there's a heightened awareness of the importance of security precautions. Following September 11, the Amoroso's Baking Company quickly took appropriate steps to make sure that we are operating as safely and securely as possible. Each of us can continue to make a difference by remaining aware of our surroundings and following the recommended security procedures. The safety of our employees and the quality of our product demands nothing less.
